Nick’s Boat
by Andy on Mar.26, 2009, under Seattle, U-District
This is a post about future posts. Sometime soon, you’ll see photos on this blog that look similar to the one above. Sure, you’ll see new boat owner, Nick, at the helm. You might even see Emily rigging a sail. What you will not see are pea coats and clouds. This pleasure-craft is meant to be enjoyed in the Seattle summer, and I can guarantee you that the Andy Aupperlee Explosion 5000 will be there to cover it. Look for a title something like: Despite alcohol, sun; Andy photographs from water—avoids disaster.

This guy sold Nick the boat. He was quite a talkative fellow. At one point he asked, “what’s with all the pictures?” Good question. Blog much? Actually, Nick heard from our mutual sales girl at Glazer’s Camera that I just picked up some new glass. He correctly figured that I’d be looking for a subject to test drive the new lens on and gave me a call. I grabbed the D300 and my new Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX prime and cruised over to Lake Washington with Nick and Emily.
She’s a 22-foot catalina. Name is pending.
+++++BONUS: Pad Thai, 5 Stars by Thai Tom+++++
We grabbed dinner at Thai Tom after kicking the tires on Nick’s new vessel. This place is amazing. It is a Seattle institution that I was unaware of until Tuesday night. Once you walk through the door into the cramped restaurant, it smells, looks and feels like Asia. I soldiered through a five star version of Pad Thai (yep, I’m that guy… ordering Pad Thai at a Thai restaurant). Even before my spicy dish showed up, my eyes were watering from the scents and steam permeating the quaint atmosphere at the counter. The whole experience was delicious. I’ll be back.
